Alan is a resident and the current Lancashire County Councillor for Ribble Valley South West, which he has represented for eight years. He has been a public servant in his working life and transferred his belief in state institutions into his work as a Councillor. Alan is a school governor at Salesbury C of E Primary School and St Augustine's RC High School. During his time as a County Councillor has worked for the building of the replacement foot bridge across the River Ribble at Dinckley, supported traffic calming measures and 20mph speed limits and campaigned for retention of the 280 bus service.
