Well over 10,500 people mainly over 70, care and frontline workers including those in the NHS have been vaccinated at Clitheroe Health Centre since the start of the vaccination programme from all over the Ribble Valley.
The Mayor, Councillor Stella Brunskill speaking on behalf of the whole community congratulated the NHS workers and volunteers. ‘’They have been working tirelessly at the Health Centre to achieve this great result. As a Rotarian I’ve been getting stuck in too as a volunteer.”
‘’ The doctors and nurses in the NHS team have been supported by the two Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Ribblesdale who have organised the flow of people through the vaccination process. They have aided the many elderly and vulnerable people from the drop off point back to their transport provided by their carers. In addition to Rotarians the clubs have recruited 180 volunteers who have clocked up over 2600 hours in rain, snow and ice to help. The programme often starts at 7-30 in the morning and often goes on to 8-00 in the evening. The volunteers are identified by the high visual jackets and the Rotarians by their yellow woolly hats. ‘’
‘’The NHS workers have vaccinated large number in care homes and the vulnerable who cannot travel in their own homes. ‘’
‘’The Ribble Valley Borough Council have provided free car parking for carers waiting to pick up their charges after vaccination and provided an information hub to give advice on all aspects of help available during the pandemic.’’
‘’ This is a massive community effort with councillors from all parties taking part along with volunteers from all organisations and walks of life across the Ribble Valley Borough. It shows what can be achieved when we all work together.’’
Whilst a large proportion of the Borough residents have been vaccinated in Clitheroe, thousands more from Longridge , Chipping and Ribchester have been vaccinated in Preston. The vaccination programme will be continuing for some time - the NHS and volunteers are ready for the return of the over 70s for their second jab.
