Ribble Valley Borough Council levies the lowest Council Tax in Lancashire. It is now the 38th lowest in the Country. The Council tax for an average house in the Ribble Valley( band D) is £150 half that of Labour controlled councils; Preston - £314.and Burnley - £300.
Stephen Atkinson Leader of the Council & Conservative candidate in Brockhall commented;-
''All this has been achieved without one compulsory job redundancy. The Council tax has only been increased twice in last decade. Conservatives on RVBC have altered council policy to drive the local economy to attract jobs and new businesses. This has resulted in increases in business rates from attracting new commercial enterprises and encouragement of tourism. Projects like Holmes Mill in Clitheroe have created 200 new jobs and the 4 screen cinema to be opened in the near future and the gym will further increase council's business rate income as well as adding new facilities for residents"
Ken Hind Campaign Co-ordinator added ''In terms of services this has mean't that Ribble Valley is the only Council in Lancashire that continues the weekly bin collections of residual waste and not charge for green waste. All other Lancashire Councils charge between £25 and £40 per year for this service.
''Our research shows that Boroughs and District Councils controlled by Labour and Lib Dems on average charge £100 more than Conservative controlled councils.''
Ged Mirfin, the Deputy Chair (Political) of Ribble Valley Conservative Association and a Conservative candidate in the New Whalley and Painter Wood Ward which also covers half of Billington states, "Ribble Valley now has the 25th lowest Council Tax amongst Second Tier District, Borough and City Authorities in the country, in 2019-20 down from 38th in 2018-19. This is a tremendous achievement and testament to our well managed prudent finances. The fact that Ribble Valley is now in the bottom 10% of Second Tier authorities for levying Council Tax is something Ribble Valley residents ought to be justifiably proud of and a very good reason indeed for Voting Conservative in the Ribble Valley and keeping us in power. One thing about Conservative authorities is that they cost you less and deliver a first class service including weekly bin collections and no charge for green waste c ollections."
