Following the Boxing Day Floods of 2015 which badly damaged the Whalley Viaduct Footpath to Old Sol's Bridge from Longworth Road and from Old Sol's Bridge to Broad Lane and Whalley Abbey and the Fence which ran alongside it, extensive repairs have now been completed by the Public Realm Team at Lancashire County Council the Footpath is now re-open.

This follows 2 years of extensive lobbying by Lancashire County Councillor, Alan Schofield in whose Ribble Valley South West District Billington falls and Borough Councillor, Ged Mirfin, who represents Billington.

County Councillor Schofield states, "I would like to thank the Public Realm Team at the County for all their hard work. The renovations to the badly damaged Footpath have been completed to a very high standard. The team that completed this work should be complimented for their efforts. The Public Footpath is now much wider and the fence which runs alongside it much sturdier than it was before."

Borough Councillor, Mirfin, states that, "The Footpath is totally unrecognizable from what existed before. Pedestrians can now be confident that they will be much more sure of foot. I just hope that dog walkers will keep ensure that they pick up after their pets so that the Footpath remains free of Dog Poo. We've already started getting reports that the path is becoming littered with dog faeces. This is a real shame given that it was only recently re-opened and taking in to account all the public money that was spent on this Public Footpath to improve the area."
