''Parliament should now think post Brexit that much greater demands will be placed on its MPs as European legislation will not come from Brussels - Westminster will return to being the legislative hub of the nation and so it is important reflect on changed circumstances, reject today's the Boundary Commission proposals and demand a return to 650 MPs.'' says Ken Hind Council leader Ribble Valley Borough."

''The Parliamentary Boundary Commission proposals issued today for Lancashire are a mish mash of comprises in order to balance out numbers of voters. The Ribble Valley constituency one of only 3 in Lancashire of the optimum size set down by the Commission (75,600) has been divided into 2 parts, carved up as a sacrificial lamb to create the chaos of the current recommendations "

"The first new constituency called Ribble Valley and Pendle contains areas from 3 local authorities South Ribble Pendle and Ribble Valley Boroughs . It includes Clitheroe Whalley Read , Simonstone , Billington, Langho ,Barrow , Wiswell . Wipshire Ramsgreave ,Clayton Le dale , Mellor, Sabden, Salmesbury, Coupe Green, Gregson Lane and forms a long sausage along the A59 from Preston to Colne."

''The Ribble Valley Borough has been part of the same Parliamentary constituency for 40 years providing strong community ties.Parliament recognises that local authorities provide community of interest and connection but when it comes to Parliamentary boundaries the Commission seem to reject this principle. Under these proposals Pendle is divided into 2 constituencies."

''There is no community of interest between Ribble Valley and Colne , the latter is part an urban constituency with a strong proud industrial heritage, Ribble Valley is rural."

''Waddington, Grindleton, Dunsop Bridge ,Newton, West Bradford ,Bowland Slaidburn , Longridge ,Chipping. Ribchester , Rimmington, Gisburn ,Hirst Green, Chaigley, Chatburn Downham and Whitewell all go into a new constituency which stretches from the foothills of Pendle in Rimmington to Carnforth in the North which takes in most of the Trough of Bowland It combines with 3 other local authorities Wyre Lancaster and Preston rendering the job of the local MP almost impossible without the included communities included having any logical connection. The proposal can only have been written by someone drawing lines on a map in Whitehall who had never seriously travelled from Rimmington to Carnforth,"

''The figures used by the Commission are already out of date as the Ribble Valley Borough continues to grow. The electoral roll for the 2017 election will show that figures used by the Commission have been overtaken by time."

''This is not the final result , we should protest loud and long in the last stages of public consultation at the break up of the Ribble Valley Borough into 2 Parliamentary constituencies. We should encourage areas like Rimmington, Gisburn Chatburn and Downham to argue to be included in a Ribble Valley constituency as its community connections are with Clitheroe and reject inclusion in a constituency that goes as far as Carnforth where not such links exist."
