'The public needs a period of stability and certainty after the election. Theresa May as Conservative  leader  achieved 42.5 % of the national vote and won 56 more seats that the opposition and should form a government. Conservative MPs in the House of Commons should get behind her to implement the will of the people''.says Ken Hind Leader of the Ribble Valley Borough Council and former MP .

Ken Hind commented ''There are many policies that are of concern to the public, NHS, education, and social care which need certainty. For the Ribble Valley Borough Council and every other local authority in the country, we need to know what will we have to spend, the number of houses we need to get built, about possible changes in planning Law, the future of business rates , police and security."       

 "Forming an understanding with the DUP or any other party is not new, to entitle a government  to rule - the precedent is the Liberal--Labour pact in the1970's .From my experience of working with the DUP in Northern Ireland , I can say they are natural Conservatives with a regional slant in their policy. Acting in the national interest they will make sure the country has  a period of stability and certainty which is what the public want - to enable the government to negotiate Brexit."

''Theresa May obtained  more votes and a greater proportion of the national vote than any other winning PM in the last 9 general elections since 1979; other than Tony Blair in 1997 and Margaret Thatcher in 1979. Others obtained an overall majority of seats from a lower proportion of the vote. She has earned the right to form a government and she is acting in the national interest by trying to do so.'' 

''The Conservative vote rose 2,342,537 from David Cameron's result in 2015 in which he obtained an overall majority of 12 taking 331 seats with 37% of the vote ,Theresa May's achievement in electoral terms is major. Combined with the DUP the new  government will have the support of 43.4% of the electorate, the highest proportion of voters in any election since 1979 ,with parliamentary seats  in every part of the UK. If the Lib Dems had not blocked the recommendations of the Boundary Commission in 2015, Theresa May would have obtained an overall majority. These recommendations would have produced a far more equal distribution of voters in seats. The Labour party benefited by having a number of small inner city seats with relatively low numbers of voters .''

My message to my former colleagues at Westminster is to stop carping and get behind Theresa May and make a success of the Brexit negotiations . Ignore the siren voices of the opposition and some journalists in  the BBC and other media who want another election,and get on with what you were elected to do, run the country..''
