Nigel Evans, MP for the Ribble Valley, has praised the speed at which vaccines are being administered in Lancashire, with 75.7% of those aged 80 and over having received at least one dose vaccine to protect against Covid-19.
Across England, the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines is being undertaken by 42 local health bodies, and new data released by NHS England shows that the Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System are ranked 4th when it comes to the speed of the vaccine rollout.
Across Lancashire and South Cumbria, 75.7% of those aged 80 and over have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine. This is compared to 59.6% in Greater Manchester, and 59.4% in Cheshire and Merseyside. Gloucestershire top the list at 85.3%, compared to just 36.0% in Suffolk and North East Essex.
Speaking about the speed of the rollout, Nigel said:
“I’m thrilled that the vaccine continues to be delivered at pace in Lancashire, and I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work of everyone involved in the vaccine rollout. Every jab in someone’s arm could be a life saved, and it’s reassuring to know that so many of those most vulnerable to Covid-19 have already received their first dose.
“While the progress so far is fantastic, we of course still have a long way to go. Although cases of Covid-19 have started to fall slightly, they remain high, as do hospital admissions. It’s essential that everyone continues to follow the rules so that we can get cases under control, and so that we are able to vaccinate as many vulnerable people as quickly as possible.”
